A new sit-down casual restaurant will be serving Southern cuisine in High Point soon. Glo & Yves Southern Cuisine is slated to open in a 3,000-square-foot space at 2100 Westchester Dr. early this fall. The space was formerly a Wendy’s.
Owner Isha Bangura told What Now Charlotte that the name is a nod to the names of her mother-in-law and her own mother. The name points to one of the major themes of the concept: family.
Bangura has drawn inspiration from her mother, who ran a restaurant in Rockingham for years. She also is bringing elements of her father’s side of the family into the concept. Her father was from West Africa, so Bangura will be incorporating West African and Sierra Leone-inspired dishes into the menu.
Expect to see plenty of classic Southern food on the menu, made with “love, time and dedication.” Offerings will include fried mac and cheese balls; cheddar jalapeño smoked turkey cornbread; collard green sandwiches with fritters in fried chicken skin; boiled peanuts with smoked turkey meat, corn and potatoes; smothered turkey wings; oxtails; and beef ribs. West African-inspired offerings will include Jollof rice and cassava leaf.
The decor will be family-oriented, featuring old photographs of her family throughout the restaurant. The space will also feature wood paneling on the walls as well as a full bar.
“We have transformed it to make it our own,” Bangura said. “We put a lot of time and love and effort into this project.”
Bangura is looking forward to setting out on this new venture. She has served the community as a licensed therapist for many years. Now, she will have the opportunity to serve the community in a different way.
“For years, I worked in this area, serving the community in a different capacity as far as doing community support, doing outpatient therapy and working with mental health in substance abuse court,” Bangura said. “What we wanted to do was bring a place to the community where we can come, relax and enjoy the food that we love in a family atmosphere.”
