A popular New York bagel franchise is heading to the state. H&H Bagels plans to open in Chapel Hill’s University Place at 239 S. Estes Dr., according to a building permit issued in July.

The spot will go into a 2,387-square-foot space with plans for 30 seats. The planned hours of operation are listed as 6 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to the permit.

Michael and Amanda Klein are listed as the franchise owners behind the space, according to the permit and a corporate filing with the state of North Carolina.

The bagel franchise launched in New York City in 1972. It has gained fame through cameos on major series like “Seinfeld,” “Sex and the City” and “The Office.”

The brand uses all-natural, non-GMO ingredients and a “traditional water bagel method,” according to the H&H website. It now has locations in multiple areas of the country, including New York, Florida and California, with plans to expand to other markets this year, including Knoxville, Tenn. and Chicago.

The menu features bagel sandwiches such as avocado, egg and cheese; Southwest turkey; and Nova salmon. They also serve house-made spreads to accompany their bagel offerings.

Axios reports that the University Place location is expected to open later this year.
