Idlewild, one of Charlotte’s favorite cocktail bars, is getting ready to move to a new location nearby in NoDa.

The owners are planning to move the beloved bar to a nearby location while the site, along with the bar’s next-door sister concept, Fairweather, will be redeveloped for a new dive bar, according to Jason Thomas. The exact location and reopening date is unknown, but the two bars at 424 E 36th Street are set to temporarily close on Sunday, November 12, for the remodel. The exact details of what will replace Idlewild and Fairweather is unknown at this time.

“Idlewild will be moving to a new location close by, and I’m hearing that the current Idlewild space will become a dive bar of sorts, [but] more on this later,” Thomas says on his Instagram. “The same Idlewild we all know and love will live on, just in a new space.”

Owner Vince Chirico opened Idlewild in early 2019 in the Novel NoDa development at 36th Street Station, offering everything from $2 PBR to glasses of wine and customer cocktails costing around $13. For food, the cozy, casual craft cocktail bar offers a menu full of shareable plates, such as a meat and cheese plate and avocado bruschetta. Despite having a menu that favors groups, the bar will only accept walk-ins with parties of six or fewer.

The success of Idlewild led Chirico to open the bar’s sister concept, Fairweather, next door last year. While the two businesses have separate atmospheres, they are connected to each other, with Fairweather being slightly larger than Idlewild. The success of the two bars has led the owners to move to a new location to better serve their customers. Customers can expect the same delicious cocktails and fantastic service at the new site.
