Another new acai eatery is getting ready to debut in Charlotte; this time, it is Mamaka Bowls, coming to the corner of Hawkins and Tremont.

The building that currently houses QC Pourhouse and the upcoming Frenchy’s is now officially fully leased, with a brand new acai eatery filling in the last space, according to Jason Thomas. This will be the first time Mamaka Bowls expands to either of the Carolinas, with four sites in Texas, one in Arkansas, and one in Oklahoma. There is no exact opening date for the new location, but founders KK Goodwin and Carrie Hudson will likely open this site in a few months.

Goodwin and Hudson have gone through quite the journey to get here, starting the concept when they went back home to Dallas from Laguna Beach and realized there was no way to live without acai bowls. As a result, Hudson created the perfect acai bowl and started selling to students at Goodwin’s high school. After a high demand, the duo took a much-needed break, only to relaunch the company a few years later. Now, Mamaka Bowls is getting ready to open its seventh location, offering a variety of delicious acai and smoothie options with plenty of customizable toppings to add. All locations, other than Fayetteville, offer a variety of specialty coffees and even a breakfast taco option.

“After a few years of revamped Mamaka withdrawals, KK decided to take over in a new house and in a new state,” according to the company’s website. “Expecting a chill summer, making a couple of different bowls a day for friends, KK & Carrie now laugh at how much that didn’t happen. Lines of people stood outside KK’s college home, waiting to pick up their bowls each day. Once the summer came to a close, KK & Carrie didn’t blink twice, knowing Mamaka was meant to be something more, and signed a lease at their first storefront in Fayetteville, AR. Since then, they have had a complete 180-degree life change and couldn’t be more stoked that people get to experience beach life and understand how freaking incredible Mamaka Bowls are.”
