Mi Pueblo Mexican Grill, a family-run Clemmons-based Mexican restaurant, is getting ready to open a new location in Mooresville at 558 River Highway.

The restaurant is seeking a rezoning permit from The Mooresville Board of Commissioners for a 2.2-acre site, replacing the temporary home of Josh’s Farmers Market, according to the Charlotte Observer. The seasonal farmer’s market set up shop in this busy Lake Norman intersection in late September after its permit for 630 Brawley School Road expired on Sept. 23. Josh’s current outdoor seasonal sales permit will expire after four months.

In its place, the Ruiz family is hoping to open its 11th location of Mi Pueblo Mexican Grill, pending approval. The Mooresville Planning Board unanimously recommended that the town board approve the rezoning request in September. The proposed 6,900-square-foot restaurant will feature a drive-through and pedestrian connections on all four sides of the building, according to documents submitted to the Mooresville Planning Department. The family-owned company already has two locations in Charlotte, Winston, and High Point, with additional sites in Clemons, Kings, Concord, and Statesville.

The new Mi Pueblo Mexican Grill hopes to open its newest location on the northwest corner of River Highway and Bluefield Road, next to Duckworth’s Grill & Taphouse. This will be a perfect site for the new restaurant, considering it sits in the middle of Port Village Shopping Center, Winslow Bay Commons, and Mooresville Crossing Shopping Mall. Despite having plenty of foot traffic, the restaurant will have to compete with Salsarita’s Fresh Mexican Grill.
