Milkbread, the casual all-day eatery with sites in Davidson and Plaza Midwood, is opening a new location in Uptown Charlotte at 525 S. Tryon St.
The company’s newest site is part of a larger development within the Duke Energy Plaza, which includes several other restaurants and businesses. Owners Joe and Katy Kindred plan to open a third location of the popular all-day café and coffee shop in the development sometime next year, according to a news release from Duke Energy. The couple also plans to open a new upscale restaurant called Albertine adjacent to Millkbread. Other eateries coming to the development include Que Fresa Taqueria + Bar and Somi Sushi.
While businesses will begin to trickle into the development this year, starting with a new AJ’s Dry Cleaners opening this spring, the redeveloped Duke Energy Plaza is expected to be completed in 2024. The two non-Kindred eateries are expected to open this fall. When the new Milkbread opens next year, customers can expect its signature milkbread doughnuts, crispy chicken sandwiches, various toasts, biscuits, salads, and other cafe snacks. There will also be plenty of coffee, espresso, and matcha options.
“As a Charlotte native, I am so proud to contribute to our city’s already-rich culinary landscape,” Joe Kindred said in a news release. “We wanted to create something special in the heart of this growing, vibrant city and couldn’t have asked for a better location to open Albertine than the Duke Energy Plaza.”
