A new European-inspired restaurant called Flight is preparing to debut in Elizabeth, located at 1949 E 7th St.

Owners Dwight and Vicki Bailey, two medical professionals who are shifting their focus to being restaurateurs, are working to open a new restaurant in the former home of a Stanley Drug Store in Summer 2024, according to the Charlotte Observer. Stanley Drug Store, which was replaced by Dollar General store, sat on the site from 1934 to 1997. While the Baileys aren’t leaving the medical industry, their daughter/stepdaughter Kayte Morton will serve as Flight’s GM.

The 2,700-square-foot restaurant will serve as a gathering place for the residents of Elizabeth and will be inspired by the owner’s love of travel, wine, and food. The two have traveled the world and have visited Europe, Africa, South America, Portugal, and Austria. Now, they want to show customers what it’s like to drink and eat around the world. In doing so, customers can expect worldly decor, European-inspired small plates, and artisanal pizzas, which will be cooked in a custom Italian wood-burning oven. Other items on the menu include fresh-made bread, charcuterie boards, and desserts.

Flight will offer various drink options, including rare wines from around the country and worldwide. The restaurant will store around 150 bottles of wine and 30-50 by-the-glass options. With so many options, customers will be relieved to know Flight will have wine flights. For those not interested in wine, there will be plenty of cocktails/mocktails and various beers, including local and travel-inspired options. Flight will have space for 60 people inside and an additional 25 people outside.
