A brand new plant shop/ wine bar called Green Space Plant Company is preparing to debut next year in Rock Hill at 151 E. Main St.
Whitney Shea was teaching seventh-grade science when she realized she wanted to open a plant shop, according to The Post and Courier. Eventually, she was able to get started via a table and tent before graduating to a mobile trailer. Now, she’s getting ready to bring her plants inside by opening a brand new brick-and-mortar in the former home of Kuttin’ Up in January 2024. In addition to plants, the site will offer a wine bar and workshop space that local groups can rent.
“Imagine, after a long day, you went to a greenhouse, but you also could have a glass of wine and be in the air conditioning,” Shea tells the Post and Courier. “So it’ll be very jungle-esque relaxing. My getaway was spending time with my plants,” she said. “That gave me relaxation and a sense of normalcy or something that I can control.”
When this new plant shop opens early next year, Shea envisions it will be more than just a place to buy plants. She hopes the new shop will allow residents to come in and learn and relax. She plans to host candle and jewelry-making classes and hold their bridal and baby showers. This should be an excellent spot for the company’s debut, considering the landlords were very adamant about having a spot that people can visit on Main Street, and it is not just another building or an office.
“The idea is to create a space where guests can come to shop, engage in experiential workshops and classes, as well as enjoy a glass of wine in a tropical oasis,” Shea tells What Now Charlotte in an email. “We’re really excited about this opportunity to grow and bring something unique to downtown Rock Hill.”
