A brand new wine bar and lounge, tentatively named Calicos, is preparing to debut later this year in Sugar Creek Station.

This is the latest project from co-owners Dan Fulco and Karisa Pennell, who previously opened Rosie’s Wine Garden and their flower shop, Nectar, which operated out of the original Rosie’s building on North Davidson. The new concept will sit next to The Independent Picture House at 4237 Raleigh Street, according to Jason Thomas, who reports the space will be a wine-focused lounge with live jazz.

There is no exact opening date for the new concept, considering the space is currently under construction. While this space is being completed to become a new wine bar and lounge, customers can get a sense of what’s to come by checking out the owner’s previous concepts, such as Rose’s Coffee & Wine Bar, which was named after the owner’s calico cat, who passed away unexpectedly seven years ago. The sassy and spunky cat will live on through the owner’s businesses.

“We felt it was only fitting to raise a glass to a departed member of our “family” and name our wine and coffee garden after her,” according to Rosie’s website. “So if you knew Rosie, just heard about her, or maybe saw her image on social media, come by and reminisce a little bit. Of course, if you didn’t know Rosie, we still want you to stop by, grab a coffee, a beer, or a glass of wine, and stroll through the garden to see where Rosie used to frolic. (But let’s be serious, she just laid around a lot). Come gather with friends in a really cool spot, relax, and enjoy yourself. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!”
