Raleigh-based Oakwood Pizza Box is expanding with a second location. A new carry-out only location for the brand will open this fall at 1842 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh, according to a release. The space formerly housed Capital Creations Gourmet Pizza.
Oakwood Pizza Box has seen success at its flagship location along North Person Street, which opened in 2017. This success has led them to need additional space to serve their popular Brooklyn-style pizza.
“Oakwood is getting so busy that some guests are getting frustrated with us,” owner Anthony Guerra said in the release. “This is how we’re solving the problem. There’s not a lot of parking on Person Street. There’s parking here.”
The selection of the location also pays homage to the former pizza spot at the location, Capital Creations. That brand operated along Wake Forest Road for three decades before closing in 2023.
“It should be a pizza shop for the next 30 years,” Guerra said.
Guerra will also be rolling out a profit-sharing program for longtime staff members with the new location.
Guerra launched Oakwood Pizza Box after working at his father’s restaurant, Bella Mia, in Cary and studying under renowned pizza maker Roberto Caporuscio. He also did stints at An Cuisines, Standard Foods and Crawford & Sons.
This is not the only project in the works for Guerra. In addition to this location, he is planning to open a wine bar called St. Pierre in Raleigh Iron Works this summer.
