After three years, Paper Plane Deli + Market has officially closed its doors in the Belmont Neighborhood, located at 933 Louise Ave., Unit 301.

Owner Amanda Cranford closed the doors to her restaurant at the end of September, hosting special events and bringing back limited-time offerings before ending its three-year run, according to Charlotte Observer. All staff has been moved to Cranford’s other restaurant, Dish in Plaza Midwood. Despite the sad news, owners tell the publication there’s “a chance that Paper Plane will pop back up in a new location in the future.”

“We created something truly beautiful at Plane,” Cranford tells Charlotte Observer. “We built community, survived a pandemic, served the best pastrami sandwich in Charlotte, created a unique dinner series that showed you can make amazing food even in a small space, and threw some badass parties.”

When the restaurant opened just before COVID-19 began to get serious, it kept its doors open during the lockdown. It offered toilet paper to anyone who came in during the supply shortage caused by the pandemic. While owners are shifting focus to other ventures, they plan to revamp Dish by adding popular sandwiches and breakfast items from Paper Plane Deli + Market to the menu and expanding the coffee program in the coming months.

“We’re sad to leave our home in Belmont and to say goodbye to our regulars and day-one fans, but it’s time to move on to the next adventure.”
