Phat Burrito is ready for expansion, taking a lease for the 2,200-square-foot at 100 Main St. in Fort Mill, the Charlotte Business Journal reported. The space formerly belonged to Center Theatre Pi, which closed earlier this year.

This will be Phat Burrito’s first expansion since owner Michael Cox revived the brand in South End in 2023 following a six-year closure, as previously reported by What Now Charlotte. The original owner Stephen Justice had opened the restaurant in July 1998, and following the 2017 closure for the brand, Cox purchased the trademark and recipes with plans to bring a resurrected version of the original concept back to the area.

The menu features burrito options, “phat salads” in crispy tortilla bowls, tacos, quesadillas and classic shareables like nachos and chips and salsa. The beverage program offers margaritas, signature cocktails and a limited wine list.

The Business Journal reported that Cox is hoping to open the new Fort Mill location in May.

Cox is also a partner at Peak Development, a real estate development and investment firm active in projects around the Charlotte area.
