Chicago–based sandwich franchise Potbelly has a location on the way to Winston-Salem. It is slated to open in a 2,264-square-foot space at 3447 Burke Mill Road, according to a building permit filed with the City of Winston-Salem.
Franchisees Dion and Keish Hilliard are behind the forthcoming location, which will be their first franchise with the brand. The team inked a six-unit deal with Potbelly earlier this year, with plans to focus on bringing the sandwich franchise to the Triad market. The Burke Mill Road location represents the first of the six locations.
Dion told What Now Charlotte that he was drawn to franchising with Potbelly after encountering the brand multiple years ago during his time in the corporate world.
“I always had an affinity for the brand and wanted to bring it here to Winston. I finally got the opportunity to be able to do it, and I’m just looking forward to it,” Dion said. “My wife and I are really big on community. We’re involved with nonprofits, and we feel this will help us continue to fulfill that part of our lives and build something for our kids in the future.”
The Burke Mill Road spot is located in a high traffic section of the city, which Dion hopes will boost sales. They are currently entering the construction phase for that location, and they hope to open there in mid-January.
Potbelly launched in 1977, and it now has hundreds of locations across the U.S. It currently has nine locations open in North Carolina, including three in Charlotte and some located in the Triangle.
Its menu focuses on providing a wide variety of toasted sandwiches, alongside other offerings such as salads, soups, cookies and shakes.
