The 6,500-square-foot space in Ballantyne that belonged to Duckworth’s Grill and Taphouse until it closed earlier this year is slated for another local concept. Reid’s Fine Foods is bringing its groceries and culinary offerings to the neighborhood, with plans to fill the space at 14015 Conlan Circle in the Ballantyne Quad shopping center.
Thomas Coker, who owns The Salted Melon Market & Eatery and is part of the Reid’s ownership team, shared with What Now Charlotte that the spot will have similar design elements to their other locations and will closely model Reid’s SouthPark location.
“We’ll have the full offering — meat shop, prepared foods, grocery options, coffee and a wine bar,” Coker said. “Really everything we do in our SouthPark and Myers Park store will be offered in this Ballantyne location.”
Coker said they have been looking to expand to the neighborhood for a while. They currently have four locations throughout the Charlotte market.
“We really wanted to find a spot in Ballantyne for the last year or two, and we’ve been looking pretty actively but hadn’t found anything that met our needs,” Coker said. “This location is a former restaurant, which certainly helps with upfront costs, and it’s a perfect size.”
The spot will have seating for 100, with room for 60 inside and 40 on the outdoor patio, according to an announcement on the Reid’s Instagram page. The team is expected to begin construction on the site in May, according to reporting by the Charlotte Business Journal. The location is slated to open in late fall, according to the Instagram announcement.
“We think this is a great step in expanding the brand into a market that isn’t in the central Charlotte area,” Coker said. “Entering a new market will be a challenge, but we think the brand has pretty good recognition in Ballantyne and it’ll be a good test for us as we try to move further outside of Charlotte.”
