The team behind The Daily Grind in Burlington is planning to launch a new concept this year. Chase Strange and Emily Baker will open Float Dirty Soda and Ice Cream in Greensboro at 1013 Battleground Ave. The Triad Business Journal first reported the news.

With the new concept, Strange and Baker are hoping to revive the idea of the retro soda shop while also falling in line with dirty soda trends that have become popular through brands like Swig.

“The whole idea of a soda fountain was super cool to me. I like retro stuff,” Strange told What Now Charlotte. “We wanted to take the idea of the modern dirty soda and combine it with the old-school soda fountain.”

The space will offer a bright aesthetic with a vintage soda fountain atmosphere. It will feature a modern color scheme with sea foam, orange and pink elements.

The menu will feature modern soda offerings with an array of syrup options. They will also offer healthier options such as sugar-free menu items and housemade syrups from The Daily Grind. In addition, the team will serve complimentary popcorn to every customer, and it will offer build-your-own popcorn options with drizzles and candy. Other offerings will include pretzel bites and cookies.

The team is targeting an August opening. From there, they hope to continue to build the brand.

“We would really love to combine the best parts of both of them and open drive-thru-only concepts,” Baker said. “We would love to be the first in the Triad to open multiple dirty soda locations as a local brand.”
