Cortez is set to undergo a major revamp at 413 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh. The concept, which local restauranteur Charlie Ibarra and his family opened in July 2017, will close on March 3 for extensive renovations. It will open again in April “as a new concept that we are very excited to present to our community,” according to an Instagram statement from the Cortez team.
“Our goal has always been to provide a delectable experience provided by a team that is passionate for hospitality and quality. We are humbled by the support we have received throughout this experience during this time on Glenwood South,” the announcement states. “Raleigh is quickly evolving and we have made a decision to evolve as well in this space.”
Cortez is known for its fresh seafood, oysters, small plates and tropical cocktails inspired by Mexican-American cuisine. The Ibarra family is also behind Mexican restaurant Jose and Sons and has roots in the Raleigh restaurant community since Jose Ibarra opened up a spot in 1995.
As of now, it is unclear what the new concept will be and what changes will be made during renovations, though the team has promised updates in the coming weeks.
“Cortez has been an absolutely wonderful experience for us as restaurateurs and I cannot express enough the gratitude I have for the staff, collaborators and guests that have made this place so special. Alas, it is now time for us to sing to a new melody,” the team stated on Instagram. “Here’s to the past eight years and the next eight years that lie ahead.”
