Fast-growing chicken chain Slim Chickens is getting ready to expand throughout the Charlotte area, starting with a new site coming to Monroe at 5118 Old Charlotte Highway.

Franchise owner Jonathan Crumpler plans to open this new location on July 24, the second in the area following the company’s area debut last March at 5535 Prosperity Ridge Road in University City, according to Charlotte Observer. Following the new Monroe location, Crumpler’s next location will be coming to Concord at 948 Concord Parkway, expected to open later this summer. These sites are part of a broader plan to bring at least 15 more Slim Chickens to the Carolinas and Virginia.

Crumpler has an aggressive expansion plan, with at least five more locations in development on top of the two upcoming Charlotte sites. Around the same time as the new Concord location, Crumpler will open a new site in Pembroke. Following this, the co-franchise owner plans to expand to Columbia, with two locations opening early next year. Finally, two more sites are planned for Southern Pines and High Point.

The Arkansas-based company was founded in 2003 by Greg Smart and Tom Gordon. Through the help of franchising, the company has expanded to over 160 locations across the United States. Slim Chickens has proven to be a worthy competitor in the chicken sandwich competition that involved Chick-fil-A and Dave’s Hot Chicken. On top of delicious chicken sandwiches, the restaurant also offers tenders, wings, wraps, and salads.
