A new restaurant, Sonrisa, is taking over the former Mucha Mucha space at 137 Brevard Court this year.
Sonrisa — which translates to “smile” — will serve Latin American cuisine, offering tortillas made in house, fajita-style meat, seafood and vegan options, alongside a full bar with cocktails centering around tequila, mezcal and rum.
In addition to a full bar, the space will feature both an upstairs and a downstairs dining room.
As the name of the restaurant suggests, the team behind the concept is aiming to bring plenty of smiles through their food and atmosphere at Sonrisa.
“I really hope we can bring smiles to people’s faces and create an ambiance that makes people feel comfortable, like a home away from home feeling in the evening,” a representative with Brevard Court Partners LLC told What Now Charlotte.
The team is aiming to open the spot in March. The new restaurant will join an existing lineup of longstanding spots, including recently rebranded Spurs Up Charlotte (formerly Crafty Beer Guys), Valhalla Pub — which underwent an upgrade last year — and sports bar Courtyard Hooligans, which is also in the process of renovations.
“These places have been around for a long time, and we want to go in and accompany them,” a representative with Brevard Court Partners LLC said. “What we want for the area is to give people who come to Brevard Court different options for food and beverage.”
