Platform Sports Bar just had its soft opening on Oct. 25 at 3216 South Blvd in South End. However, an associated outdoor concept is still to come.
PS at the Platform, a rooftop bar that offers 5,500 square feet of third-floor space, is expected to join Platform Sports Bar as an associated but separate concept later this year.
It will offer a different vibe from the 11,000-square-foot Platform Sports Bar, which features three large LED walls that can display up to 20 sports games on one screen. Platform Sports Bar offers game-day foods with an upscale twist, ranging from wings to flatbreads.
In contrast, PS at the Platform will offer a rooftop bar atmosphere rather than a sports bar feel, though it will also feature its own large LED screen.
Parliament Group, known for South End restaurant Para, teamed up with R&R Platform and former Carolina Panthers players Charles Johnson and Kawaan Short to bring the two concepts to life.
“We realized that Charlotte doesn’t have a sports bar on the scale of what we’ve done,” Chet Desai, partner at Parliament Group, told What Now Charlotte. “It’s really just bringing something new to Charlotte with something that we’ve seen in other cities. And with the sports culture that Charlotte has, we thought it would be something they could really embrace.”
Desai said PS at the Platform will add an extra layer to the project, providing more than just a sports bar for customers to enjoy.
“You have the sports bar aspect on the inside, and then the patio [will be different],” Desai said. “Charlotte loves rooftops. You will still have a big screen out there, but you can come hang out here for brunch on a Saturday, or after work come have drinks and watch the sunset. It makes us a destination.”
Right now, it is unclear precisely when PS at the Platform will open. Desai said it is largely dependent on the city and inspections, but it is expected to open by the end of this year.
