A brand new Starbucks is coming to the fast-changing North Tryon neighborhood at 1901 N. Tryon Street between Uptown and NoDa.
The company’s newest location will have a full indoor dining room and drive-thru, opening in early 2024, according to Axios Charlotte. The new 2,500-square-foot cafe is amongst several improvements coming to the surrounding areas, including a $20.3 million project for major infrastructure improvements along the corridor, as well as a 19-acre project called Queens Park Commons filled with residences, retail, and restaurants.
The new Starbucks will be one of the company’s ‘Community Stores,’ which is a part of the company’s Community Store Program initiative, designed to provide economic opportunity in “underserved communities” across the U.S. When first announced, Starbucks announced it would open and operate 100 stores by 2025 in underrepresented neighborhoods across the country as part of the expanded Community Store program. When selecting Community Store locations, Starbucks considers factors such as low median household income, high youth unemployment, and population stability.
“We believe it is our role and responsibility to partner with those in the communities we serve to help make a positive economic and social impact,” John Kelly, executive vice president of Public Affairs at Starbucks, said during the announcement. “These stores are successful, and it’s time to expand the model. Over the last five years, we’ve seen these Community Stores empower our partners and customers to create meaningful impact that is localized and relevant to their neighborhoods. We’ve learned a great deal from our 14 Community Stores and applied those learnings to how we approach community partnership in more than 8,000 neighborhoods we serve across the country.”
