After serving The City Kitch, Sun’s Kitchen has announced it is relocating next year to South End, located at 3232 South Blvd.

Owner Brian Sun and his wife, Mandy Kuang, have operated the traditional Chinese restaurant from The City Kitch since 2020, when the pandemic made ghost kitchens a more reliable option for restaurant owners. Now that operations are returning to normal, the owners are opening a brick-and-mortar at The Platform, a complex with 42,000 square feet of adaptive-reuse space and new construction. The new Sun’s Kitchen is expected to open in the first quarter of 2024.

The owners are planning to invest around $800,000 into the project and will fill the space with traditional Chinese art and touches of the culture while creating an elegant interior, according to Charlotte Business Journal. The dining room will be inspired by water towns in Southern China, and Sun’s father, Shulin Sun, will use his skills as an artist to showcase his work through a mural and with a featured display that is available for purchase. Gallery wall themes will rotate throughout the year. As for food, customers can expect the same delicious food from the company, including Ma-la Wontons, Dan Dan noodles, Ja Jang noodles, and more.

“The business has grown strongly in the past three years — actually more than we expected.,” Sun tells Charlotte Business Journal. “We feel it’s finally time to move to the next stage of our journey and to open our own restaurant. Our goal is to not only bring these authentic tastes to our guests, but also share the historical and cultural backgrounds. It is simple, elegant, and timeless.”
