Los Angeles-based healthy, fast-casual concept Sweetgreen is getting ready to make its Carolina debut with a new location in Uptown at 101 N. Tryon St.

The company recently signed a lease to open a 2,900-square-foot space at One Independence Center, according to the Charlotte Observer. Sweetgreen senior vice president of operations Stephanie Traut tells the publication Charlotte is the ideal location for an expansion due to its “great food culture, banking business hubs and a growing metro city,” adding that Charlotte is a “young and active” community. Sweetgreen expects to make its Charlotte debut next summer.

The new addition proves the area is becoming a hotspot for new concepts, with New York-based Dos Caminos making its area debut next month. Around the same time, Monarch Market food hall is expected to open, featuring a second location of Kebab 2 Go and Barley and Burger, new concepts called Rolled AF and Curry Junction, and other bar concepts. STK Steakhouse recently made its North Carolina debut this month.

When Sweetgreen opens next year, it will surely become one of the best health-alternative restaurants in the area, offering a variety of customizable salad and grain bowls priced between $12-$15. The company recently announced it will start cooking proteins, veggies, and grains exclusively in extra virgin olive oil later this month. The new Charlotte location will be open for lunch and dinner and will have indoor dining, takeout, and delivery.
