As Sweetgreen heads toward its debut in the Charlotte market at One Independence Center in Uptown, it has already secured a second location in the area.
Amid the reshuffling of tenants underway at Birkdale Village in Huntersville, Sweetgreen will be opening in a 1,760-square-foot space. A representative for Sweetgreen told What Now Charlotte that the new spot is expected to open in 2025.
Sweetgreen, which was launched in 2007 by Jonathan Neman, Nathaniel Ru and Nicolas Jammet in Washington, D.C., has grown to more than 200 locations across the U.S. Currently, there are no North Carolina locations, though the one coming to Uptown and another location in Raleigh are both planning to open soon.
The fast-casual health-centered chain features a menu consisting of salads and bowls such as its kale caesar salad and chicken pesto parm bowl. Each meal places an emphasis on healthy, sustainably-sourced ingredients.
Birkdale Village has been undergoing a revamp, which has involved both tenant closures and announcements. Sugar + Ice Mini Donuts closed in July, and Girl Tribe closed in April. However, other tenants such as Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn and the Suffolk Punch taproom are expected to join the Birkdale Village soon.
