The team behind The Gin Mill is planning to add a new concept in South End. They hope to open Ginny’s in the former Broken Promises space at 214 West Tremont Ave., Suite 101, by mid-November. Broken Promises closed for a rebrand at the address in May and has not reopened since.
Co-owner John Ellison told What Now Charlotte that their goal is not to reinvent the wheel with Ginny’s — rather, they hope to employ a tried-and-true concept: the friendly neighborhood bar. It will lean toward an Irish menu and design, offering bourbons, Irish whiskeys and six Irish and English beers on tap. The design will feature hardwood floors and space for shuffleboard, pinball and video games.
Expect to see DJs or acoustic duos at the bar on Fridays and Saturdays to add a live music element to the space.
“It’s nothing extravagant — just a nice neighborhood bar,” Ellison said. “It’s reminiscent of what the original Gin Mill was.”
Ginny’s will be open until 2 a.m., offering a late-night bar spot for customers in that area of South End, where bars tend to close by midnight. Ellison feels that Ginny’s will complement his existing concepts, including The Gin Mill and live music venue Amos’ Southend.
“I think it will be a completely different crowd from The Gin Mill,” Ellison said. “On Fridays and Saturdays, The Gin Mill is a bit of a younger crowd — 21 to 27. We feel this will be a little bit of an older crowd because of the neighborhood.”
Stay tuned for further details as the team grows closer to opening.
