California-based burger chain The Habit Burger Grill is expanding throughout Charlotte, opening a new location soon in Mooresville at 379 W. Plaza Dr.

The company’s sixth North Carolina location is expected to move into the former home of Popeyes east of Interstate 77, exit 36, according to the Charlotte Observer. The Habit Burger Grill will host a grand opening on October 4, the second restaurant to debut this year following a site opening at 2121 W. Roosevelt Blvd., near Monroe Crossing Road. Both are part of the company’s 15-store expansion plan in the Charlotte region.

A company representative tells What Now Charlotte all these sites will be corporate-owned. To celebrate the company’s newest location, The Habit Burger Grill will host several pre-opening events the week before the grand opening. On Saturday, October 1, the chain will offer a free cheeseburger, fries, and drink to the first 200 customers at 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Then, on Monday and Tuesday, The Habit Burger Grill will offer a free chargrilled meal from a pre-set menu for the first 200 customers during the same hours. The 2,868-square-foot free-standing restaurant will also feature a drive-thru and indoor self-serve kiosks.

There’s no exact location for the other upcoming Charlotte sites, but two in a year proves the company is excited to move into this North Carolina market. Although The Habit Burger Grill has more than 350 restaurants in 14 states and a dozen international locations, there are only four other sites in North Carolina and two in South Carolina, including one in Indian Land that opened in 2019. The company is planning to eventually expand throughout South Carolina to Lexington, Spartanburg, Greer, and Easley, according to the company’s website.
