After spending several years as a food truck, What The Fires is returning with a brand new restaurant coming to West End at 2200 Thrift Road.
What The Fries will start this new chapter of the business life by opening today, October 4, out of The City Kitch West End for takeout and delivery orders, according to the Charlotte Observer. Once that is established, the owners plan to open a restaurant in the newly planned front of the house, featuring an open kitchen counter and booths. Construction is expected to start sometime this fall, with an opening date planned for early next year.
While customers can order their food now, the new dining area, designed by Southwick Architecture + Interiors, will allow customers to bring any food from the City Kitch West End to enjoy. For What The Fries, customers can expect a variety of loaded fries with toppings such as truffle, bacon, shrimp, and flaming hot fries. The restaurant also offers sandwiches, burgers, and, of course, sides of fries. All of the food is chef-driven, scratch-made, and full of delicious flavors.
“What the Fries is ecstatic to go back home at City Kitch and to partner with them on this new dining experience,” Co-owners Jamie Barnes and Greg Williams said in a joint statement. “We operated out of City Kitch’s University location from 2014-2021, when we started as a food truck, so it holds a special place in our hearts. We are thrilled to be part of City Kitch’s expansion and to become part of their West End community.”
