Chef Matt Pleasants will introduce a new restaurant-market concept, Pleasants Provisions, to Winston-Salem later this year. It will take a 3,700-square-foot ground-floor space at 830 West Fourth St.
Pleasants told What Now Charlotte that part of the concept will feature groceries like pantry staples, fresh produce and pre-made, ready-to-go meals that customers can take home and heat up. Including a market in his concept is important to Pleasants, as he sees a need for it in the community.
“In downtown Winston-Salem, there are a ton of residences, apartments and condos, and we really lack a grocery store,” Pleasants said. “So we’re trying to fill that [void].”
For the restaurant portion of Pleasants Provisions, Pleasants plans to tap into his extensive experience as a chef. He has cooked across the country, working in kitchens ranging from fine-dining establishments to food trucks.
The restaurant will offer a dine-in option with a bar. While Pleasants is still developing the menu, he plans to focus on clean, healthy food that is approachable and appealing to a wide audience.
“It will be elevated, flavorful food, but with a very fast-casual vibe,” Pleasants said. “It will be comfortable for all.”
At Pleasants Provisions, customers can expect to see plenty of locally-sourced meals. Pleasants is targeting a late fall opening — likely November or December — and is looking forward to bringing a new concept to the community.
“There’s a little gap in downtown Winston-Salem to me between a very formal sit-down restaurant and a very casual restaurant, so I’m hoping to bring a more elevated cuisine and palate that is approachable to all,” Pleasants said. “So if you want something really delicious and well thought-out but you don’t want to spend $200 on dinner, I think we’ll bridge a gap between approachable eating and fine dining.”
