Megan Smoot, alongside her husband T.J. Smoot and fellow business partner Brandon Ward, recently opened the Winston-Salem Wellness Collective, a community-building center offering ways for people to approach health and wellness, at 823 West Fifth St.
“We realize that everyone might have a different way they want to get there, so we lean into a multi-faceted approach to holistic wellness,” Megan told What Now Charlotte.
The spot offers yoga classes, meditation, breathwork, introspective practices, creative expression events and gallery space. The team is looking to build up their offerings moving forward, including a cafe offering healthy dishes to continue to foster community.
“[Our goal] is to create a space that is welcoming to all in the community and where there can be healing found through connection,” Megan said.
The Smoots also operate a nonprofit, as well as a travel company based in rural Jamaica called Higher Vibes Travel. The work they do through the travel company inspired their model and goal for the Winston-Salem Wellness Collective: to build community and find ways to forge connections, only now in their local community. Megan is a Huntersville native, and T.J. and Brandon are both from the Winston-Salem area, and they wanted to bring something positive to their area.
“We’re bringing what we’ve been doing in rural Jamaica and doing it from a new angle for our own hometown,” Megan said.
