A family is closing down their German Village bar, but not for long.
The Daily Growler at 702 S High Street is shutting down on March 16 and will undergo renovations and a rebrand for about a month, per a report from Columbus Business First. Their Upper Arlington location will remain open during renovations. The revamped bar will also include a larger menu of drinks.
Starting out in 2012, the Blakely family opened their first location in Upper Arlington at 2812 Fishinger Road, followed by their Powell bar at 258 W Olentangy Street. Their Powell spot closed in 2024, leaving two locations in the Columbus area, as the German Village spot opened in 2017. This time, there are no intentions of shutting down a location for good.
“The taps are pausing, but the fiesta is just beginning. The Daily Growler announced today that it is officially entering a ‘Chrysalis’ state starting March 16th, closing its doors after March 15th for approximately one month to undergo a radical evolution.” says a recent post from the owners.
The bars have become known for serving beers from all around the U.S. A few of the Ohio breweries on tap include Great Lakes, Wolf’s Ridge, Nocterra and Rhinegeist. Beer menus vary by the location.
The German Village Daily Growler is in what is known as the “Brewery District,” next to Tremont Lounge on the east side of High Street. Other bars and restaurants in this stretch include Antiques on High, The Pizza Box and Agni. Downtown Columbus is just north of the neighborhood.
