Following a vehicle crash at Mezcla, the Mexican restaurant should be coming back this spring.

Staff of the restaurant are working to rebuild after a van drove into the business at 1022 Summit Street on Jan. 23. Now, local business Service Bar will hold a fundraiser for the restaurant to help the team with repair costs from March 4-7. Owner Garrett Talmage did not want to give a firm reopening date as of yet, but he is hoping it will be sometime in the spring.

From images, the van looks to have struck the front of the building near the entrance. In a report from Columbus Dispatch, Talmage said a few employees suffered minor injuries. At the time, he thought the restaurant would only be closed for a few weeks, but repair work will be going into the spring.

“We are looking forward to serving you again soon!” Says a statement from their website. There is no word on new additions to the inside or the menu.

What Now Columbus previously covered Mezcla opening in spring of last year. A relatively new concept, the restaurant serves Latin cuisine such as carne asada with fire roasted cebollita, salsa de arbol and crema de rancho. Tacos and vegetarian options are also popular items, along with their many cocktails like the rum old fashioned with piloncillo and molasses bitters.

The restaurant is just east of the Short North Arts District, at the corner of E 3rd Avenue. This area is a mix of residential and commercial, with restaurants nearby including Drunch Eatery + Bar, The Go Go bar and Fox in the Snow Cafe. The area of impact was the southeast side of the intersection.

As the team works through this period of rebuilding, they will be providing more updates on their social media pages including Instagram. What Now Columbus is awaiting further comment from Talmadge about the reopening.
