As first reported in an article on the website Columbus Underground, a new sports bar is set to open this summer at 1312 Grandview Ave, in the former home of Grandview Cafe’s Round II. Homefield is a concept from Matt Barnes, who also owns membership based hangout Leisure Club and The Branch Coworking.

Barnes tells What Now Columbus that the new sports bar will offer an opportunity for storytelling through using sports memorabilia throughout the space. With items spanning a variety of sports from baseball to hockey and soccer, the aim is to tell the big stories and those that don’t always get shared.

“It will be a blend of everything from hometown heroes to legends,” he promised. And Barnes added that guests will be surprised by the visuals in the space and can expect an experience that’s unlike anything else in the sports bar scene at the moment.

In addition to the decor, the space will feature indoor and outdoor seating, with just over 80 seats inside and around that same number available on the patio. The food menu will be focused on some sports bar fare, such as smashburgers and Detroit-style pizza, along with sweet potato waffle fries, roasted Brussels sprouts and ice cream based dessert options. The establishment will feature a bar with an emphasis on domestic beer selections.

The work to transform the eatery from its previous concept is underway and having the support of the Grandview Cafe team during his newest venture means a lot to Barnes.

“I’m grateful to my partners at Grandview Cafe for all their support,” he shared of the process.

Barnes said he expects to open the space some time in early summer. Keep up to date on the opening timeline by following the business on Instagram
