Revolving Sushi Concept Files Permit to Open on Bethel Road

A new, independent revolving sushi restaurant may be opening in a 6,000-square-foot space that will seat around 200 guests.

According to a recent permit filing with the City of Columbus, a new, independent revolving sushi restaurant is on its way to the area. Per information in the filing, Hokkaido Revolving Sushi has requested to perform a $200,000 interior remodel at 1466 Bethel Rd.

The permit filing lists Tony Jiang as the business owner, and in a phone conversation with What Now Columbus, Jiang shared that the interior space is 6,000-square-feet and when renovations are complete, the restaurant will seat about 200 guests. Jiang, who has been in the restaurant industry for years and also co-owns Coco Hot Pot with his wife, said he got the idea to open Hokkaido Revolving Sushi from visiting other cities.

“I travel a lot and I get a lot of ideas from dining in places like Chicago and Las Vegas,” he said. 

Jiang also said he wants to bring a revolving sushi dining experience that one might find in cities like New York, L.A. or Las Vegas, to Columbus. 

“I know there’s currently a revolving sushi [chain] restaurant in Polaris, but I think we can do it better,” Jiang said of his forthcoming concept.

When it opens, the establishment will serve the revolving sushi menu items that guests can expect to find at similar eateries, and the restaurant’s all-you-can-eat dining model will be based on dishes being delivered to tables by a train that travels along the conveyor belt that will pass through the dining area. 

In addition to the food, Jiang plans to have a full bar at the eatery, and there also may be some desserts on the menu, but those items are still being decided upon.

Jiang hopes to open the restaurant within six months of receiving the necessary permits. Currently, there isn’t a web or social media presence for Hokkaido Revolving Sushi, however, Jiang said he plans to start social media accounts for the restaurant when it is a few months from opening.
