A brand new cafe, The Light Meeting House Coffee Bar & Cafe, is getting ready to open at 1485 Oak Street in the Franklin Park neighborhood.

The new concept will move into the former home of Addella’s on Oak, according to Columbus Underground. Prudence Kelly tells What Now Columbus that she and co-owner/ partner Rick Smith are in the final stages of inspections and hope to open in early April 2025. When The Light Meeting House Coffee Bar & Cafe opens, customers can expect indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy coffee and baked goods such as bagels and pastries. Its hours of operation will be Tuesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The couple was committed to finding a space that would fit well within the community. Initially, they explored options in Clintonville but ultimately chose this location due to its similar communal qualities and Smith’s previous familiarity with the area. While they are excited about this new opportunity—a dream they have recently realized—they want to ensure they do not encroach on other local businesses, such as East Market at 212 Kelton Ave. Smith emphasized that their goal is to blend into the community rather than compete with existing businesses. As a result, the eatery will offer limited food options. Even though it has a full kitchen, they prefer that food not be the primary focus.

“We wanted to be really intentional and thoughtful of the business in the East Market,” Smith tells Columbus Underground. “We spend a lot of time in coffee shops and love the coffee culture, so we thought it’s time to make the jump.”
