Major U.S. Grocery Chain to Lay Off 138 Workers Across Two Texas Stores

Grocery chain Albertsons has filed a WARN notice for layoffs at two Tarrant County stores, impacting 138 employees. The impacted stores include its Euless location and a Fort Worth site on West Freeway, with layoffs scheduled to take effect in April.

Albertsons to Begin Layoffs at Two Tarrant County Stores

According to the official WARN notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission, Albertsons Companies plans to begin layoffs on April 25, 2026. The filings were submitted as part of required WARN notices to the state.

WARN notices are filed to notify the state ahead of significant workforce reductions and allow time for worker assistance. Both notices were submitted on March 25, with 82 employees affected at 1155 N. Main St., Euless and 56 at 6700 W. Freeway.

One of the largest food and drug retail brands in the US, Albertsons Companies has more than 2,200 stores in 35 states. The company operates several well-known banners, including Safeway, Vons, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, Acme, United Supermarkets, Star Market, Kings Food Markets, and Balducci’s Food Lovers Market.

With 22 distribution centers and 19 manufacturing plants, the company has focused on innovation and product offerings. It has also prioritized digital engagement across e-commerce loyalty, pharmacy, and health, and in-store, as well as connected retail brands with shoppers around the joys of food through the Albertsons Media Collective.

Albertsons has not disclosed additional details about the layoffs. The company recently appointed Brian Rice, a senior technology executive and current CIO at McDonald’s, to its Board of Directors, signaling a continued focus on digital and e-commerce growth.
