After serving the Dallas community for 53 years, New York Sub has decided to close its doors soon. The eatery announced the news through social media and cited a lease renewal issue and financial pressure behind the shutdown. The restaurant team also appealed to the community for help in finding a new location so it can continue its story.

Dallas Landmark New York Sub to Shut Down

New York Sub, a local favorite sandwich joint, is popularly known for its fast and casual service with a vintage vibe. Founded in 1974, the eatery features big and loaded sandwiches, along with homemade fresh brisket and pastrami. Some of the recommended items include Texas Club, Turkey Pastrami Reuben, and Mango flavor Joe Tea.

Recently, the New York Sub team shared the heartbreaking news of closing its doors by the end of February 2026.

“After 53 years of first dates, post-game meals, and late-night study breaks, New York Sub is losing its home at 3411 Asbury Street at the end of February,” said the team.

In the post, the sandwich shop added a note of gratitude and shared, “This neighborhood has been our home. We’ve raised our kids here and watched so many of you grow up….We’ve seen first dates turn into weddings, then into families sharing a table where you once shared a cookie.”

Lease and Financial Challenges Mark the End

The building housing New York Sub on Asbury Street has been sold. Due to financial struggles and lease renewal issues, the Kelly family has decided to close the restaurant.

“We were in the middle of negotiating another 10-year lease when our landlord sold the building, and while the new owners have been kind, we simply can’t make the new financial terms work,” explained the team.

The sudden closure news broke the hearts of its fans. Many loyal patrons and community members shared their appreciation for the restaurant and its team.

Owners Ask for Help Finding a New Home

The team requested the local community to help them find a new location or someone to take over the restaurant. They further encouraged the community to share the post, visit the shop, and help celebrate its long history.

“We’re sharing this with heavy hearts, but also with hope. We would love to:- Find a new location nearby, or Find someone who wants to take over and keep New York Sub alive at its longtime home across from SMU.”

As New York Sub prepares to close, it invited the community to visit and enjoy their favorite sandwiches before saying goodbye.
