Ohio may not be the first name most taco fans think of in consideration of their favorite food, but a growing chain is setting out to change that. Barrio Tacos + Tequila, founded in Tremont, Ohio, is casting an inventive eye on the beloved Mexican favorite, and DFW diners will soon be able to enjoy the fruits of the Buckeye State’s innovation. Barrio will be opening its first Texas location in McKinney early next year, reports Culture Map Dallas.
The chain is bringing its innovative cuisine to 9401 West University Drove, #150. Paperwork filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation pertaining to the restaurant shows that Barrio will occupy a renovated 3,014 square foot storefront.
Barrio’s DFW debut will be overseen by partners Wissam Saliba and Brian Kegley. Saliba states that the restaurant will be ready to feed hungry McKinney diners in February of 2026.
Local taco fans will undoubtedly be counting down the days until next February, when they can sink their teeth into Barrio Taco + Tequila’s food. The brand-which has been voted one of the top 10 taco stands in the United States-takes a creative approach to the titular dish. While the restaurant does offer some distinctive house recipes-fans may be particularly surprised and thrilled by choices like the french dip or the chicken bacon ranch-many visitors will be drawn to the “build your own” option. Barrio’s tacos are infinitely customizable; the list of proteins alone is extensive, to say nothing of the cheese, toppings, salsas, and sauces.
Truly immersing diners in the Barrio experience, the McKinney storefront will capture a distinctly DFW flare courtesy of murals by Mike Kotlarek.
