Blackland Distillery, named for the Blackland Prairie that runs from the Red River down to San Antonio, is owned and operated by Fort Worth Native Markus Kypreos. Together with distiller Ezra Cox, who has 20 years of experience brewing and distilling, the two have brought an “unquestionably classic” and “distinctly original” sipping experience to Fort Worth.
The distillery operates at 2616 Weisenberger St, where you can enjoy the fruits of the company’s labor in a tasting room at the same site. Blackland produces gin, vodka, bourbon, and rye whiskey. And that production capacity is about to grow.
Blackland will add 4,500 square feet to their footprint at The Foundry District, the community and outdoor gallery space adjacent to 7th St Blackland calls home. “The expansion is really focused on additional barrel storage space, a new bottling line area and additional storage for finished bottles and empty bottles. It will allow us to keep up with growing demand and increased capacity,” Kypreos wrote in an email to What Now Dallas.
Construction is currently underway and expected to be completed by next month. And, in addition to the physical expansion, Blackland shared on social media that the distillery plans to expand distribution to Oklahoma in the fall.
The expansion won’t interfere with the tasting room or current production, so you can continue to enjoy Blackland while the company grows. “Our staple has been our signature Old Fashioned made from Blackland 100 Proof Rye Whiskey, house-made aromatic and orange bitters and demerara syrup,” says Kypreos. “We also have the Dreamsicle Fizz which is very popular, combining Blackland Bourbon, Dublin Vanilla Cream Soda and fresh squeezed orange juice ice cubes.”
