An ice cream shop that focuses on making sweet treats the old-fashioned way with a slow kettle processing to create flavor is coming soon to Richardson. Bruster’s Ice Cream is slated to open at 710 W. Renner Rd., Ste. 202 in Richardson in April of 2023.

“We are currently in the process of renovating the place,” said Ramkumar Pattabiraman, managing partner of the Bruster’s Ice Cream location in Richardson. Pattabiraman told What Now Dallas the general contractor should begin work once permitting is received.

Bruster’s carries more 24 ever-changing flavors made fresh in their ice cream shops each day, according to the brand’s website. You can try a flavor in a handmade waffle cone or bowl. The menu also features sundaes and splits, ice cream cakes and pies, candy-filled blasts, shakes and freezes, and specialty items such as fat free and no sugar ice cream, as well as non-dairy, vegan made with Oat Milk.

Pattabiraman said he tried multiple ice cream franchises before selecting Bruster’s. They met with the owners and franchisees, and learned more about how Bruster’s works. “They are a diversified group. They take care of their franchisees very well,” he explained. “We were sold on how they approach the whole business of having an ice cream and starting from scratch up until operations.”

The Richardson location will feature a walk-up window for guests to order and pick up their sweet treats. “Richardson is a growing place with a great population. The location we got is a prime place,” Pattabiraman said. “We would like to have an opportunity to give back to the community,” he continued. “That’s the reason we are there.”

Pattabiraman plans to open two other locations in the North Dallas area within a year of the Richardson Bruster’s opening. Bruster’s currently has two DFW locations—Frisco and McKinney.

Bruster’s first opened in 1989 when Bruce Reed, the “Bruce” in Bruster’s, followed his passion to provide fresh, homemade ice cream to the local community. Now, there are about 200 locations across the U.S. and in Guyana and South Korea.
