A Louisiana restaurant concept specializing in frozen yogurt, soups, and sandwiches is heading to Texas. Counter Culture Frozen Yogurt has more than half a dozen shops in Louisiana, and the first for Texas is set to open in Rowlett in early 2023.
The first Counter Culture opened in Shreveport in 1977 serving items made with fresh ingredients. “It’s a one-of-a-kind yogurt,” said Mark Mathews, co-owner of the Counter Culture planned for Rowlett. Mathews has four franchise locations reserved for Texas—Rowlett, Rockwall, Lavon, and Royce City—and he hopes to have 1-2 stores in each city in the next 10 years. “I think it’s going to be great.”
Everything served at Counter Culture is fresh. “It’s on the lighter side. The yogurt is amazing with fresh fruit, honey, and granola,” Mathews told What Now Dallas.
The biggest seller is the Humphrey, which is similar to a banana split but with vanilla yogurt. They also have strawberry and chocolate. “We think Texas is going to love it. It does great where it’s at now.” The menu also features cold and hot sandwiches, soups, and salads.
Mathews said Counter Culture will open in the Dalrock Crossing Shopping Center at 6310 Dalrock Rd., Ste. 900 in Rowlett, hopefully, by the end of February of next year. The new restaurant will feature a large, outdoor patio for people to sit and enjoy some yogurt.
