Late 2023 could be when the Rayzor Ranch neighborhood in Denton gets its very own Portillo’s Hot Dogs. A recent project filing states the new Portillo’s will be located at 2655 W University Dr. in Denton.

Construction is expected to kick off this summer on the new 7,700-square-foot space. The new Portillo’s will feature indoor dining, an outdoor patio, and a drive-thru, and construction could wrap up in late 2023. There is no word on when it might open to the public.

Portillo’s has been in expansion mode across North Texas in recent months. The brand offers Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef and sausage sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, salads, and cheese fries. Diners often end the meal with a slice of homemade chocolate cake. Strawberry short cake, chocolate éclair cake, and a variety of shakes are also available.

Dick Portillo began sharing his hot dogs at a stand called The Dog House in Illinois back in 1963. The brand was renamed to Portillo’s four years later and opened its first storefront. Portillo’s has dozens of locations across Illinois and a number of other states including Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Portillo’s has been expanding into Texas. It’s first Texas spot opened in The Colony earlier this year, and others are in the works for Allen and Arlington.
