SusieCakes, a home-style bakery concept from California, will open a location in the East Dallas/Lakewood area at 6441 E. Mockingbird Ln. It is expected to open in Spring 2022.
Founded by Susan Sarich, the bakery’s signature is “Vanilla Celebration” – a 6-layer cake baked with colorful sugar confetti, filled and frosted with their signature retro-blue vanilla frosting. Its portfolio of traditional cookies and bars includes soft, chewy snickerdoodles, brownies, seven-layer bars and whoopie pies. Rotating seasonal items such as fruit pies and holiday treats like pumpkin cupcakes with maple frosting are also featured.
Apart from its current and forthcoming Dallas locations, SusieCakes also has a third Texas location at 1621 River Run in Forth Worth. Per CultureMap, the brand is planning to open an Austin location in Spring 2022, as well. More than 20 other SusieCakes bakeries are located throughout Southern and Northern California.
The first SusieCakes bakery opened in 2006 in Brentwood, California, serving up classic treats made daily in a friendly, old-fashioned neighborhood experience.
“If you can’t spell it, we don’t bake with it,” the brand’s website reads. “Just like our grandmothers, we do not use any mixes, artificial preservatives, or shortening in our products. We bake our products from scratch using only the freshest and finest ingredients.”
While growing up in Chicago, Sarich was called “Susie” by her two beloved grandmothers, Mildred and Madeline. She enjoyed their freshly baked treats on a daily basis after coming home from school. When she moved to the West Coast as an adult, she brought along her grandmothers’ carefully recorded recipes on handwritten 3×5 cards. SusieCakes is her way of honoring them.
