Terrance Smith is taking on a new, permanent location for Smith Spot BBQ, which has previously operated out of a food truck, or pop-up events with great success. The new location at 823 Main Street in Garland will offer indoor and outdoor patio seating by the end of February 2024.
This will be a welcomed development for Terrance’s current foodie fans, who are likely as loyal to his infectious personality as they are the fine flavors he creates.
Terrance told What Now Dallas the menu will include all the classic meats — ribs, big beef ribs, brisket, hot links, sausage, pulled pork — and traditional sides like baked beans, potato salad and Mac and cheese. But that is not all.
“I don’t like to stay in the box,” Terrance told What Now Dallas. “So I will be throwing in some off-the-menu specialties every week, like turkey legs or tacos — the things people love, but I don’t always have the time to do because we stay so busy.”
Terrance also said collard greens, candied yams, and hot water corn bread will be menu mainstays, along with fan favorite: a grilled cheese and brisket sandwich.
Part of the appeal, Terrance said, is interacting with customers as he cooks. “One thing my customers have always enjoyed is that I prepare it right in front of you. I was at Dallas farmers market a couple years and had whole station set up almost like a hibachi show and people love it.”
Inside the new restaurant, customers can expect to see art and decor that tells a story — graffiti, posters, articles and pictures of Terrance’s loves like football, and family memories of his uncles cooking at a backyard BBQ.
Guests will be greeted by Terrance and his mother, the honorary cashier, before moving through the line to choose their food. “It’s not necessarily a family business, but they are always on board with me,” Terrance said.
