An iconic East Dallas diner that shut down in 2020 after a fire significantly damaged the building is being replaced by Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

According to a recent state project filing, the forthcoming fried chicken and biscuit restaurant is coming to 8949 Garland Rd in Dallas‘s White Rock neighborhood. The location was previously home to beloved Southern-style restaurant, Barbec’s. It was forced to close after a fire caused more than $175,000 in damage and never reopened.

Construction work on the 2,561 square foot space is expected to start in July and be completed in October. With an estimated cost of $775,000, Popeyes will be a “new construction” with drive-thru service.

CSM Group, a franchisee of the brand with over 60 restaurants in Texas, Kansas and Missouri, is bringing the location to the area.

Founded in New Orleans in 1972, Popeyes offers a unique Louisiana flavored menu of spicy chicken, chicken tenders, fried shrimp, and other regional items. The brand has become one of the world’s largest quick service chicken restaurants with over 3,300 locations in the U.S. and around the world.
