New year, new digs seems to be the theme for North Texas restaurants of late as several are making plans to relocate in 2022 – The Great Outdoors Sub Shop, Café Gecko, Bavarian Grill.
Half Shells Oyster Bar and Grill is the latest with such plans. The “original” Fish City Grill will relocate its Plano restaurant in February 2022.
After nearly 20 years at 5800 Legacy Dr suite C-2 in the Shops at Legacy, it will be moving to 7201 Bishop Rd suite E4. The seafood joint will continue operating at its current location until it’s ready to make the move across the street to its larger space.
Founded in 1995 in Dallas’ Snider Plaza, the original Half Shells location is still in operation at 6617 Snider Plaza. It was first a coffee shop, but owners Bill and Lovett Bayne had the idea to turn it into a cozy neighborhood seafood joint reminiscent of New Orleans spots “you wander into … when you’re looking for some cold beer, oysters on the half shell and air conditioning.”
The second Half Shells location opened in Plano in 2002.
The Baynes eventually created Fish City Grill to bring the Half Shells concept to new neighborhoods. And while Fish City Grill has grown significantly compared to Half Shells (the Grill has multiple locations across Texas, as well as Arkansas, Florida, and Oklahoma), Half Shells is considered “the original.”
The restaurant’s menu features a variety of seafood dishes such as oysters, shrimp and catfish, as well as tacos, sandwiches, soups and salads. Favorite dishes include the classic Fish and Chips, Honey Chipotle Shrimp Tacos, Shrimp and Crab Stuffed Flounder, and Shrimp and Shroom Linguini. Creative cocktails and wine is also served.
