Travelers passing through the DFW International Airport are one step closer to enjoying Chicago’s distinctive cuisine, no matter where in the world they are headed to or coming from. Portillo’s, a chain with its heart and tastebuds firmly in the Windy City, has filed paperwork to begin construction on a new location in the busy transportation hub.
The restaurant will be bringing its signature hot dogs, chicken sandwiches burgers and shakes to space B-2-071C-A01 at 2141 South International Parkway. Portillo’s will have a dedicated 2,582 square feet of space to set up shop.
DFW flyers will soon be seeing and hearing progress on the storefront; paperwork filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation states that renovations will begin on October 25 of this year. The space will require relatively extensive work, described as “new partitions, finishes, millwork, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical.” The extent of alterations precludes the possibility of a 2025 opening-in fact, the submitted application projects the project will wrap by April 23 of 2026.
The DFW Airport has an impressive array of dining options, far beyond the basic grab-and-go choices many travelers have come to expect from meals on the move. Portillo’s will be joining a vast collection of fast-casual and dine-in options. The Illinois favorite is bringing many years of hospitality experience with it to Dallas; Portillo’s opened its first location in 1963 and has 95 storefronts open across the United States, with many more planned.
