A Garden State sandwich institution is preparing to take a fresh bite out of the DFW. Jersey Mike’s, helmed by veteran franchisee Michael Greco, is bringing its beloved subs to the Wynnewood Village Shopping Center, and it will be ready to greet guests later this year.
The venerable sandwich giant is moving into a 2,120 square foot storefront located at 655 West Illinois Avenue, Suite 1073. Michael Greco kindly made some time to speak with What Now Dallas about bringing Jersey Mike’s to Wynnewood Village Shopping Center-his second location in the Oak Cliff neighborhood.
Greco explains that he and his team opened an Oak Cliff storefront about a year and a half ago, which opened the door for this next Jersey Mike’s. “We’ve had such a warm response from the community.” he says. “There’s still not enough of the kind of healthier, fresh options we offer at Jersey Mike’s. Oakcliff, as a whole, needs more of these options.”
Oak Cliff has proven incredibly receptive to Jersey Mike’s particular brand of freshly-made, delicious subs. The Wynnewood Shopping Center is a logical next step for the chain- Greco states: “We’ve had a really good experience, from day one. It’s been such a warm reception. Wynnewood has been kind of a pillar in Oakcliff and there’s a lot of investment going in there. We’re glad to be able to bring another option to a different part of Oak Cliff.”
Greco wants Jersey Mike’s to be more than just a deli where visitors grab a sandwich and run; he wants the restaurant to help foster community among neighbors both in front of and behind the counter. He explains: “We really want it to be lively, energetic and welcoming, and family friendly. We aren’t a drive-thru; a lot of interaction with our customers is face to face. We get to know the customers. It’s different from your average fast-food place, where you’re just getting customers in and out. We want to get to know our community well and build a relationship.”
Locals can look forward to enjoying a Jersey Mike’s sub before the year is out. Greco states that he is optimistic for a mid-May opening. The eatery will open with altruistic and community-mined fanfare. While a precise grand opening date is not yet available, Greco details what the celebration will entail, saying that for the first 5 days of opening, Jersey Mike’s makes a deal with the community; donate to a local charity (to be announced, closer to opening) and receive a free sub. Oak Cliff residents can follow along on socials as the opening approaches to learn what the charity will be and how to participate, as the Jersey Mike’s team builds its covenant with the local community.
