Brush off those “French for Beginners” books and grab your beret. DFW diners will soon be able to take a bite out of France and they won’t even need to break out their passports. Maman, a New York-based cafe concept which strives to bring the flavors and atmosphere of Southern France to North America, is opening a location in Dallas next year.
The eatery will be taking over the space at 4004 Villanova Street that previously housed Trova Wine + Market. DFW residents still have a bit of a wait ahead of them before they’ll be able to say “oui oui” to Maman’s fare; construction is set to begin on the 1,785 square foot space on September 1 of this year and should be concluded by May 23 of 2026. While this does not provide an absolute timeline, it seems likely the cafe will be open by late spring or early summer of next year.
The DFW storefront will be Maman’s first entry into the Texas dining scene. The brand was founded in 2014 when owners Benjamin Sormonte and Elisa Marshall opened the first location in SoHo. Propelled by rustic charm and a delicious menu featuring soups, salads, sandwiches, and pastries, the cafe now has 37 locations spread across New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ontario, Quebec and Washington, D.C.
Future Dallas regulars can look forward to a cozy and charming oasis from the outside world. Maman’s website describes what’s in store, saying: “Greeted by the scent of culinary splendor that wafts through the space, our guests step into an experience that engages all of the senses: rustic décor at every turn, the aroma and comfort of cuisines inspired by family traditions, and the highest quality ingredients.”
