On June 13, Swizzle announced on Facebook that it is closing the Greenville Avenue venue. “SWIZZLE’S BRICK AND MORTAR WILL BE CLOSING next month. Our last day will be July 19th,” read the post.

The announcement made it clear that the decision to end operations was not easy for the restaurant, which opened in 2020.

Swizzle, like many other popular restaurants in Dallas, is dealing with economic uncertainty and shifting trends. The social media post urged patrons to support their favorite small businesses as much as possible as they are in need of it during times of uncertainty.

The establishment worked tirelessly to “change this course against the relentless economic pressure and our incredible staff.” Reflecting on struggles and challenges faced by the restaurant and its staff, Swizzle said the team has gone through unspoken struggles and never chose escapism as an option. The establishment also expressed sincere gratitude to its loyal patrons for their support over the years.

Reactions From Dallas Tiki Community

Swizzle built an amazing DFW tiki community over the last decade or so. The restaurant was one of the few authentic tiki bars in Dallas. Tiki fans and patrons were taken aback by the closure news, expressing fondness towards Swizzle’s popular pina coladas and tropical vibes.

On June 15, Swizzle hosted a sale featuring its artwork. Many customers attended the event, and others who missed it showed up in the comments. Swizzle plans to organize a similar sale for fixtures, furniture, and restaurant equipment next month.

Future Pop-Up & Catering Plans

As affirmed by the announcement post, Swizzle’s brick-and-mortar may be closing, but it will continue operations as a pop-up and catering company. The restaurant will move forward with food and cocktail catering for special events, including parties, business events, lunches, weddings, and holiday parties. Presently, the establishment is busy organizing big events and will continue until its closing day.

Swizzle’s Origins and Journey

Swizzle said, “Our goal was to bring you the best tiki experience we could dream of and I think we did just that.” Swizzle began as a pop-up lounge in 2016, then opened its Greenville Ave. location in late 2020. The origins of the place trace back to its pop-up days. Popular for its striking themed decor, refreshing cocktails, and tropical vibes, Swizzle will continue business with pop-up and catering services.

Swizzle is planning several exciting events as it nears its closing date. The closure is a reminder of the challenges in the restaurant industry, especially faced by small businesses. Dallas has recently witnessed the shutdown of several popular restaurants. With the end of a chapter, Swizzle hopes to succeed as it explores different avenues to sustain itself.
