The Chestnut Tree Teahouse & Bistro, which has been serving customers on the Historic Downtown Denton Square for nearly three decades, is getting a makeover. The family-owned restaurant has temporarily closed its doors at 107 W. Hickory St. in Denton for renovations.
The proposed changes include raising the ceiling, new paint, and a bathroom remodel, according to a recent project filing. The completion date is tentatively set for mid-February.
The Chestnut Tree, which was established by Valeree Clegg and her mother, Betty, in 1994 started as an antique shop and tea room. In 2016, Suzanne Johnson purchased The Chestnut Tree after working there in several roles including as general manager and head chef. According to the company’s website, Johnson is “passionate about maintaining the history and traditions of The Chestnut Tree, while offering new and exciting events and menu options.”
The full-service restaurant provides breakfast and lunch options to guests. The menu features items such as Lox & Toasted Bagel and The Dentonite, which is a French toast sandwich with ham, Swiss cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, hollandaise, a poached egg, and a balsamic glaze.
