DFW diners with a hunger for healthy cuisine, get ready for the first taste of your next culinary obsession. Helmed by franchisee Lilian Nguyen, California-based concept Trū Bowl is getting ready to introduce itself to the Lone Star State with a new Plano Storefront, reports Culture Map Dallas.
The restaurant, which specializes in açai bowls, will be joining the Shops at Granite Park at 5760 SH-121 #145. Nguyen was kind enough to tell What Now Dallas about bringing Trū Bowl to the area. She explains that Plano is the perfect neighborhood for the chain to make its Texas debut owing to its passion for good food and a healthy lifestyle. “I really feel like the timing couldn’t be better to bring Trū Bowl to Plano.” she says. “The community here cares about healthier living and wanting more wellness focused food options. Plano also has this awesome energy with steady growth and people who love checking out new food concepts.”
Trū Bowl’s DFW arrival was a few years in the making and started, ironically, all the way in California. Nguyen explains: “A couple years back, while vacationing in Newport Beach, CA, my sister-in-law introduced us to Trū Bowl for breakfast. It was my first time trying an acai bowl and I was blown away. When I returned home to Dallas, I went searching for an acai concept that matched the same freshness, flavor, and quality… and never found one.”
Nguyen decided to take matters into her own hands: “So in Summer 2024, I made the decision to change that..if I can’t find it, why not bring Trū Bowl here? I took the leap, reached out to the brand and now, 1.5 years later, here I am, opening the first ever Trū Bowl Texas location, right here in Plano!”
While açai bowl concepts have seen a surge over the past few years, Trū Bowl sets itself apart thanks to its customization options-a characteristic that Nguyen explains really sold her on the chain. She states: “What really set the brand apart to me was the freedom to build my own bowl! Yes, there’s a solid pre-set menu, but you can also fully build your own bowl – stacking bases like Açaí, Coconut, or Pitaya, and layering additions like chia pudding, overnight oats, granola, fresh fruit, nut butters, and toppings. The best part? No extra charge!”
Curious about what Trū Bowl has in store once it opens its doors? Nguyen has you covered, offering this delicious insight: “I like to describe Trū Bowl as a fresh superfood spot where healthy meets fun, easy, and personal. We offer a crafted menu of açaí bowls, smoothies, protein blends, and refreshing drinks, but the real magic is that guests can also build their own bowls just how they want them, all for one flat price – so they can explore without upcharges.”
Trū Bowl promises to be more than just a place for visitors to sate their hunger. Nguyen hopes when customers visit: “They feel welcomed and excited. The ordering is quick and interactive, the ingredients look and taste fresh, and the end result feels like it was made just for them. Whether it’s a post-workout pick-me-up, a lunch break reset, or a weekend hangout.”
Residents can soon stop dreaming of their ideal açai bowls and begin enjoying them. Nguyen says she is aiming to soft open Trū Bowl in January and hold a grand opening in March of 2026. “I can’t wait for the doors to open and for Plano to love it just as much as I did that morning on the beach.” she says.
If all goes according to plan, more DFW neighborhoods can look forward to savoring Trū Bowl’s cuisine. Nguyen explains: “The plan is to expand to more locations across the DFW. My hope is that once TRU Bowl is open and running, the community genuinely falls in love with it. We want to be the spot people think of first when they crave something quick, healthy, and insanely good. I’m excited for Plano to be the start of that.”
Plano is in good hands with Nguyen; she is committed to recapture the magic she herself felt when she first sampled the restaurant’s fare, and to share that with her neighbors. She sums it up beautifully, saying: “At the end of the day, I believe people want food that feels great, tastes amazing, and keeps up with a busy lifestyle.”
